The New
McCarthyism, Cuba and Communism

A new McCarthyism is being designed in
Washington that puts all democratic rights in jeopardy. The House Ways
and Means Committee has issued subpoenas demanding that three peace and
justice organizations turn over internal communications, membership lists
and financial records. This demand came 1 day after the release of a
State Department report called “Cuba: The Capital of 21st Century
Communism” claiming that Cuba is the center of global terrorism and it
comes after a recent Trump speech claiming that the biggest threat to the
country is Communism. The State Department report names 43 people
and organization including mayors, members of congress, a Labor Union and
numerous journalists and organizations across the movement including the
National Lawyers Guild, IFCO/Pasters for Peace,
Code Pink, Black Lives Matter, The Democratic Socialists of America and
many more. The subpoenas are issued against, Breakthrough News, The
People’s Forum and Tricontinental: Institute for Social Research. [read
