More than
100 actions have taken place in the United States alone to protest the illegal
U.S. invasion of Venezuela and the kidnapping of its president, Nicolas Maduro
and his wife, Cilia Flores. Maduro has been taken to the Metropolitan
Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York in the wake of a federal indictment accusing
him of drug trafficking. The United National Antiwar Coalition (UNAC)
strongly condemns this illegal attack and kidnapping and applauds the antiwar
movement in the U.S. for its quick response to these illegal acts.
According
to Donald Trump more than 150 aircraft were used in the attack on Venezuela in
which Caracas and several other cities were bombed. The Special Operation Delta
Force along with the CIA were involved and according to Trump there was
significant opposition on the ground.
Trump
claims the U.S. will run the country and its oil industry for the benefit of
the U.S. oil companies. There can be no clearer violation of
international law than what we have just witnessed. But Trump does not
have the last word. The Venezuelan Supreme Court has made the vice
president, Delcy Rodriguez the new interim president. She has given a
defiant speech in which she has stated that Nicolas Maduro is the only
legitimate president of Venezuela and that the Bolivarian Revolution stands
strong. People have taken to the streets in Venezuela to oppose the U.S.
actions which have been widely condemned by countries throughout the region and
throughout the world.
Delcy Rodrigues has also stated
that the illegal operation of the U.S. has a “Zionist tint,” apparently
referring to the “decapitation” operations that Israel conducts against
resistance forces and governments. These don’t work for Israel, and they
will not work for the U.S. Whatever happens in the coming weeks in
Venezuela, it is the people of Venezuela who will decide their future, not
Trump.
In the face
of this imperialist aggression, UNAC expresses our complete solidarity with the
people of Venezuela. We pledge our solidarity and will continue to resist
alongside the Venezuelan people.

UNAC Needs Your Support
Dear UNAC supporter,
Start the new year by supporting UNAC and the antiwar movement. UNAC
does not get funds from rich donors; we only get funds from our members
and friends. Please help us once again.
The
US has attacked Venezuela and kidnapped its president, Nicolas
Maduro. It
continues to support Israel as it violates the Gaza “ceasefire” daily,
attacks Palestinians in the West Bank, it has bombed Nigeria and builds
towards war with Iran,
Lebanon and others. The US continues to seek war with China and
continues its effort to support NATO in its war in Ukraine against
Russia.
The
US pursues its war at home as it sends troops and ICE agents to our
communities and imposes economic polices that hurt working people and
the poor, while supporting the billionaire class.
For
all these reasons a strong, antiwar coalition that enables unity among
antiwar groups is necessary as we go through these dangerous
times.
We hope we can once again depend on your support.
Thank you,
The UNAC Administrative Committee
