The Gaza "Ceasefire"
The United National Antiwar Coalition (UNAC) salutes the people
of Gaza and the Palestinian resistance. They have survived the
attempted genocide. It is not over, but the 1st stage of the
agreement has given some relief to the people of Gaza and has freed some of the
Palestinian hostages that Israel was holding in its
prisons. However, Israel has no intention of ending their genocidal
policy towards the Palestinians and has violated the ceasefire agreement
daily. As the statement by the three leading Palestinian resistance
organizations makes clear, the resistance will continue till all of Palestine
is free.

Both Netanyahu and Trump asserted that Hamas would be
destroyed, and they and other resistance groups would be disbanded and disarmed
and that that Gaza would be emptied of Palestinians. But they failed
and the resistance organizations maintain the overwhelming support of the
Palestinian people.
Israel has achieved none of its goals and today they are
hated and isolated throughout the world, and the US and its European allies
have been exposed as supporters and perpetrators of genocide. Their
military campaign against unarmed Palestinians civilians has been a
failure. Israel and imperialism have been weakened.
On the other hand, at great expense, the Palestinian people
have stood firm and today have been embraced by people in every country,
including in the imperialist countries of Europe and North
America. Millions have marched in the streets across the world.
Performers and athletes have taken up their cause and are refusing to have
relations with Israel. The Italian unions held a general strike, not
for wages and benefits, but for Palestine. Other unions around the
world took stands against the genocide and refused to load ships or move
weapons to Israel. There is now pressure like never before to end support to
Israel. People today understand the horror that is Zionism as never
before in history.
Israel is the greatest recipient of US aid. This
aid could cover health care in the US and other needs, but instead during this
war, Medicaid and Medicare have been cut. Besides the aid from the US
government and its imperialist allies, billions get funneled into Israel
through bonds and investments from cities and states, from retirement funds and
even unions. This keeps Israel going and pays for the illegal
settlements in the West Bank. Israel is a product of imperialism and
can exist only through the support of imperialism.
The US armed Israel to the teeth, but they could not defeat
the people of Gaza, who were kept totally unarmed, sanctioned and
surrounded. The resistance, at enormous sacrifice, managed to dig tunnels
for self defense and repurposed Israeli missiles
dropped on them, into weapons of resistance. They have every right,
faced with continuing illegal occupation, apartheid and genocide, to hold their
weapons today."
Israel hoped that with an easy defeat of the Palestinians,
they could move on to accomplish their goal of a Greater Israel, and especially
destroy Iran, but Iran fought back and showed they could greatly damage Israel.
This caused Israel to plead with Trump to intervene, which he
did. But Iran emerged stronger after the 12-day war and today, with
the help of Russia and China, have plugged holes in their
defenses. Today, Israel can no longer be seen as an indestructible
force, and tens of thousands of Israelis fled the country during the war with
Iran, and many will never come back. Israel and the US were shown to
be weak against Yemen and whatever blows they were able to deal, Yemen was able
to continue to fight back in support of the people of Gaza. Even US
Navy ships proved vulnerable to the Yemenis. In Lebanon, Hezbollah
remains as a force with massive support. We in UNAC applaud the role
of the Axis of Resistance that supported the Palestinians in every way they
could.
The antiwar movement in the US was able to be built during
this period. For the first time in many years, we were able to hold
mass demonstrations against the genocide and the relentless lies of the
government and their media that called us antisemitic could not defeat this
movement, nor could their repression. But we must also learn from
our actions. We must learn to be more inclusive and struggle to
bring together all forces who support the Palestinian people. Though
there is a relief from the fighting at this moment. We know that
Israel’s goal is still genocide against the Palestinian people and that US
imperialism will always push for war and domination.
From the River to the Sea, All of Palestine will be free!
