RESOLUTION ON

CONVENING A GLOBAL CONFERENCE

AGAINST U.S. AND NATO MILITARY BASES

WHEREAS, the increasingly militaristic foreign policy of the United States and its new administration, as the leading power of NATO, is pushing the world toward the brink of nuclear war and global environmental catastrophe; and

WHEREAS, there is an imminent need for an urgent unified response by the global peace, justice and environmental movement to prevent such disastrous outcomes for the whole humanity; and

WHEREAS, the founding organizations of the Coalition Against U.S. Foreign Military Bases believed from the beginning that the struggle against U.S. Foreign Military Bases could not be waged and won solely by peace organizations and activists from within the United States; and

WHEREAS, it will take a unified global movement, composed of all pro-peace and justice organizations and activists that are opposed to U.S. and NATO military bases, to achieve the goal of closing all U.S. and NATO military bases around the world; and

WHEREAS, undeniable success of the present National Conference has demonstrated that, in spite of our possible differences on other issues, a broad unity of diverse peace, justice and environmental organizations and activists against U.S. and NATO military bases can be achieved on the basis of the Coalition’s Unity Statement, which has been endorsed by more than 200 peace, justice and environmental organizations from around the world;

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Coalition Against U.S. Foreign Military Bases calls upon all forces of peace, social and environmental justice to join hand with us in a Global Coalition for convening a Global Conference Against U.S. and NATO Military Bases within a year of this National Conference; and
